Friday Prayers to El Divino Rostro
FOREWORD
The Prayers were compiled by the arranger - a Devotee of Nuestra Senora de Penafrancia and El Divino Rostro, and it can be prayed on Friday, the Traditional Day of Devotion to the Sacred Passion and Death of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Recalled in P. Pedro de la Torre y del Pozo's letter to his cousin Juan Francisco in 1882, the Miserere Psalm is one of the essential prayers to El Divino Rostro, supplicating not just for the end of the Cholera Morbo, but also for a true contrition of our sins and a firm purpose of amendment of life. This serve as a meditation to the Adorable Face of our Redeemer...covered with spittles, dust; wounded by our sins and of those of the whole world - and His love endures forever. And the heart of the Devotion to the Face of Christ is the Spirit of Reparation against Blasphemies and Profanations of any forms, especially that of Sunday and Holy Days of Obligation - by any means through Mass, Prayers, Voluntary Penance and Almsgiving.
May this little work will inspire you to make Devotion to the Adorable Face of our Redeemer - and to live by the spirituality of Reparation - as we implore to stamp this seal upon us all, so that the Image of God may once more be reproduced by its imprint in our souls. Amen.

PSALM 51
Ant: Make Thy Face to shine upon Thy servant, and save me in Thy mercy: let me not be confounded, O Lord, for I have called upon Thee.
V. Have mercy on me, O God, according to thy great mercy. And according to the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my iniquity.
R. Wash me yet more from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my iniquity, and my sin is always before me.
V. To thee only have I sinned, and have done evil before thee: that thou mayst be justified in thy words and mayst overcome when thou art judged.
R. For behold I was conceived in iniquities; and in sins did my mother conceive me. For behold thou hast loved truth: the uncertain and hidden things of thy wisdom thou hast made manifest to me.
V. Thou shalt sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be cleansed: thou shalt wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow.
R. To my hearing thou shalt give joy and gladness: and the bones that have been humbled shall rejoice. Turn away thy face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.
V. Create a clean heart in me, O God: and renew a right spirit within my bowels.
R. Cast me not away from thy face; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
V. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation, and strengthen me with a perfect spirit.
R. I will teach the unjust thy ways: and the wicked shall be converted to thee.
V. Deliver me from blood, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall extol thy justice. O Lord, thou wilt open my lips: and my mouth shall declare thy praise.
R. For if thou had desired sacrifice, I would indeed have given it: with burnt offerings thou wilt not be delighted.
V. A sacrifice to God is an afflicted spirit: a contrite and humbled heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. Deal favorably, O Lord, in thy good will with Sion; that the walls of Jerusalem may be built up.
R. Then shalt thou accept the sacrifice of justice, oblations and whole burnt offerings: then shall they lay calves upon thy altar.
Ant: Make Thy Face to shine upon Thy servant, and save me in Thy mercy: let me not be confounded, O Lord, for I have called upon Thee.
(Pause for a moment of silence)

NOVENA PRAYER
O Jesus, who, in Thy cruel Passion didst become the 'abject of men and the Man of Sorrows,' I worship Thy divine Face. Once it shone with the beauty and sweetness of the Divinity; but now, for my sake, it is become as 'the face of a leper.' Yet, in that disfigured Countenance, I recognize Thy infinite love, and I am consumed with the desire of making Thee loved by all mankind. The tears that flowed so abundantly from Thy Eyes are to me as precious pearls that I delight to gather, that with their worth I may ransom the souls of poor sinners. O Jesus, whose Face is the sole beauty that ravishes my heart, I may not see here below the sweetness of Thy glance, nor feel the ineffable tenderness of Thy kiss, I bow to Thy Will—but I pray Thee to imprint in me Thy divine likeness, and I implore Thee so to inflame me with Thy love, that it may quickly consume me, and that I may soon reach the vision of Thy glorious Face in heaven. Amen.
Prayer to Obtain the Settlement of all Our Needs
Oh, Eternal Father, since it has pleased our Divine Savior to reveal to mankind in our present century the power residing in His Holy Face, we now avail ourselves of this treasure in our great needs. Since our Savior Himself promised that by offering to You, oh Eternal Father, the Holy Face disfigured in the Passion, we can procure the settlement of all our affairs, and that nothing whatsoever will be refused us, we now come before Your Throne.
Offering to You, oh God, this adorable Countenance, disfigured with painful bruises and covered with shame and confusion, we beg through the merits of this Holy Face to obtain these, our pressing needs.
Grant us pardon, Eternal Father, for the worst crimes of our age, which are atheism, blasphemy, and the desecration of Your holy days. May this offering of the Holy Face of our Savior before Your throne obtain for us deliverance from these evils.
Send us, oh God, many vocations to the priesthood and to the religious life, so that by their prayers, their works, and their sacrifices, they may spread the blessings of Your Church and confound Your enemies. Amen.

ANTIPHON (English)
Christ humbled himself, becoming obedient unto death, even to the death of the cross. For which cause God also hath exalted him, and hath given him a name which is above all names: That in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those that are in heaven, on earth, and under the earth: V. The light of Thy Face has been shed upon us, O Lord. R. Thou hast given joy to our hearts. Let us pray: O God, who didst wish to leave as a memorial of Thee to us, who are marked with the light of Thy countenance, an image impressed upon a cloth at the urging of Veronica: through Thy passion and Cross grant us, we beseech Thee; that we may now upon the earth be so able to venerate and adore it through a glass darkly, that in safety may we see Thee face to face when Thou comest to judge. Who livest and reignst with the Father, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen |
